Pirates sink Boll Weevils late to take series - Enterprise, AL

After splitting a conference doubleheader with the EOCC Boll Weevils on sunday, the CVCC Pirates sent Matt Hill(ND 3.2IP, 8H, 1K) to the mound to try to take the rubber match and the series from the host team. The Pirates began the game in good fashion, scoring three runs in the first three innings and silencing EOCC bats for the first three. Everything unraveled for the young Pirate lefty in the bottom of the fourth however, when the Boll Weevils pounded out eight consecutive hits, one of which was a squeeze bunt, to score seven runs and take a 7-3 run lead on Chatt Valley. Tristan Farrell (W 4.1IP, 7H, 2K) relieved Hill and surrender just one more run in the sixth, but though CV hit several balls hard, they were unable to create anything to show for it from the fourth through the seventh innings. It was the eighth inning when things finally started happening for the Pirates, as they used several hits and a couple walks to plate four runs making it a one run game.

Down by one run in the ninth, the scrappy CV bunch found way yet again to climb back into a ballgame that looked all but lost. Logan "Fast Eddie" Foster was down two strikes in the count to lead off the inning, when he blasted a two strike pitch over the right field wall to tie the score and give the Pirates a chance to make a run at lead. The CV offense did not disappoint. Two rockets that literally went through Boll Weevil short stop Donnie Diaz and put runners on base. Chatt Valley followed with several more well hit balls that resulted in three runs and gave the Pirates a three run lead going into the bottom of the ninth.

Adam Thomas called upon Wade Dudley(S 1IP, 1H, 2K) to make his ninth appearance in fifteen games this season, and as he has done all year long, Dudley did not disappoint, whiffing two and allowing just one hit to claim his fourth save of the year. The win was important for the Pirates, giving them a series victory in the ACCC and places their overall record at 11-4. Tomorrow's game scheduled against Gadsden State has been cancelled due to weather conditions, but Chatt Valley will resume play this weekend with a conference series at home vs Wallace State Community College at Dothan.
