Pirates split conference doubleheader with Enterprise-Ozark - Enterprise, AL

Four errors sank the Pirates in their conference opener at Enterprise-Ozark Community College on Sunday despite a fantastic, three hit performance by ace David Head(L 8IP, 3H, 8K). The Boll Weevils scored in the second, fourth, sixth, and eighth innings, but only one of their four runs was earned. CV tried to make a run at the lead in the seventh inning, scoring two runs on RBI's from Min Ho Kim and Antonio Callaway, but they squandered several more opportunities to put runs on the board. The Pirates racked up eleven hits in the loss, but they left the bases loaded twice and runners on second and third once during the ballgame.

Game two went quite differently, as the Pirates used seven hits and seven walks to blast the Boll Weevils for twelve runs and a win. The Pirates scored seven of their runs in a big fourth inning explosion capped off by a towering grand slam from second baseman Alex Duhaime. Duhaime had a big day all around for CV adding a double and totaling five RBI's, two runs, and a walk to his line on the day.

Johnny Gunter(W 6IP, 7H, 8K) was solid on the hill for CV, going six innings and allowing just three earned runs en route to a Chatt Valley win. Wade Dudley(1IP, 1H, 1K) was called on to finish the ballgame, and he did so with little drama retiring three of the four batters he faced in the seventh.

The split puts the Pirates at 1-1 in the ACCC and 10-4 overall. The Pirates will play the Boll Weevils on Monday in Enterprise in the rubber match to determine the series winner. The first pitch is at 2PM EST.
