CVCC STARTS WITH A WIN OVER NWSCC - Niceville, FL

The Pirates started the 2008 season with a victory over ACCC North opponent Northwest Shoals on Friday. Pitching and defense were the story for CV, who got very strong performances from ace David Head(W 1-0 6IP, 4K, 2H) righthander Wade Dudley(2IP, 2K, 3H), and freshman Logan Foster(S 1, 0K, 1H). Head started the game strong, mowing down Shoals' hitters in the first, and cruised for 6 innings allowing only two unearned runs in the win. Sophomore righty Wade Dudley followed with two superb innings to set up Logan Foster, a freshman who will serve in the closer role for the Pirates.

Offensively, the Pirates applied steady pressure all day long, putting runners on base almost every inning. Logan Foster, Antonio Callaway, Alex Fuller, and Min Ho Kim each collected an RBI for CV. Fuller led the Pirates at the plate going 3-4 on the day. Callaway added a 2-3 performance, along with driving in the go ahead run. The Pirates also tore up the basepaths in their opener, stealing 5 bases. Sophomore leadoff hitter Alex Montes and his partner in crime Antonio Callaway each took two bags on the day, while the crafty Alex Duhaime added one of his own.

The win puts the Pirates at 1-0 for the year.
