Jaguars
upset Pirates on the road 12-11 - Covington, GA
Chattahoochee Valley's seven game winning streak came to an end today
at the hands of Georgia Perimeter College in a high scoring affair at
the Jag's new facility in Covington, GA. CV attacked GPC right of the
bat with three runs in the first inning and followed with one run innings
in both the third and fourth to jump out to a 5-1 lead. The Jags were
able to capitalize on a critical Pirate error in their half of the fourth
however, and they were able to tie the score at five apiece. The CV bats
weren't quite finished, as Min Ho Kim bashed his sixth homer of the season
through gale force winds, and the Pirates pushed five more runs across
the fifth. The Jags answered back with two runs in the bottom half of
the inning, but CV still held a solid lead going into the seventh inning.
With none out and a runner on first base, the Jags popped up to first
baseman Min Ho Kim, who pulled in the ball. On the play, the runner at
first drifted off of the bag as Kim made the catch and stepped on first
base, but the field umpire claimed he could not see the play and awarded
first base to the runner. On the following play, a would be double was
again thwarted by a non call that kept the inning alive for the hosting
GPC team. Taking full advantage, the Jaguars put together five hits and
piled five run, one earned, on to their total to take a 12-10 lead. The
Pirates scored one in the eighth to get within one run of the lead. Tristan
Farrell led off the ninth with a walk and was sacrificed to second base
by a pinch hitting Kyle Maley, but that would be as close as he would
get to scoring the tying run as neither Alex Montes or Alex Fuller could
drive him home.
On the day, the Pirates managed eleven hits, including two each from Alex
Duhaime, Logan Foster, and David Buchanan. Min Ho Kim and Alex Montes
each had three RBI's on the afternoon to lead the Pirate offense. Tyler
Moffitt(ND 4IP 7H, 5K) gave a solid performance but was the victim of
shaky defense as CV made four errors in the game. Marc Nellist(L .2IP
5H) took the loss.
The defeat was the Pirates' first in their last eight games and brings
their overall tally to 9-3 on the year. The Pirates will travel to Enterprise,
AL on Friday for their first conference series against the Boll Weevils
of Enterprise-Ozark Community College.
