PIRATES OUTDUEL CAVALIERS - Phenix City, AL

It was a beautiful day in Phenix City as the Chattahoochee Valley Pirates took a 3-1 win from the Darton Cavaliers at Howard Lake Field on Monday. Pitching for both clubs was strong, but it proved to be stronger for the Pirates who sent sophomore Tyler Moffitt to the mound to make his first start of the season. Moffitt(W 1-0, 7IP, 5H, 7K) was a key part of the CV pitching staff last year, and he looked outstanding against a solid Darton team. The left handed hurler went seven strong innings piling up seven strikeouts while surrendering only one unearned run on a botched first and third play. Nick White followed Moffitt with a strong effort in the eighth to set up freshman closer Logan Foster for the save. It was Foster's second save of the season.

Scoring was scarce for the Pirates as well, who managed to plate just three runs in the victory. The bulk of the damage was done on one swing by first baseman Min Ho Kim. With one runner on and after the Pirates pushed a run across to tie the score, Kim deposited a Cavalier fastball well beyond the left center field wall to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead and all the insurance they would need.

The victory puts the Pirates at 5-2 on the season. Chatt Valley makes a trip down to Pensacola on tuesday to rekindle an old rivalry with PJC. .
