Blue team takes fall world series 3 games to 1 - Phenix City, AL

The Blue team took Chatt Valley's annual fall intrasquad world series 3 games to 1 with a 14-1 drumming of the Black team in the fourth and final game. The winning club was led by an unrelenting offense and a dominating performance on the mound by freshman lefty Matt Hill.

The series got off to an exciting start with the Blue team jumping out to an early two game lead. Marc Nellist outdueled sophomore ace David Head in Game 1 of the series for 6 innings before turning the ball over to sophomore righty Wade Dudley, who collected the save. Game 2 was a similar contest on the mound, with both Matt Hill and Brannon Humphries holding 1 run leads late into the game.

The game breaker came late however, as the Pirates' power hitting first baseman Min Ho Kim belted an 0-2 curveball over the left center field wall for a grandslam to give the Blue team a 2 game advantage.

Game 3 saw both teams put up solid efforts on family day, with the Black team pulling out a must win performance. Alex Montes bunted in the game winning run, and the Black team never looked back in a 9-5 victory.

The final game wasn't quite as interesting. After a good first inning, the Black team got out to a 1 run lead in the second. The Blue team wouldn't be denied, however, as they answered back with an amazing 8 runs on 6 consecutive hits in the bottom half of the frame. The hot hitting continued from there and the Blue team put the Black team away 14-1. The winning Blue team will be rewarded with a steak dinner, while the Black team eats hot dogs catered by Burt's Butcher Shop in Columbus, GA.

Coach Adam Thomas had this to say after the series: "The steak is going to be sweet."
