PIRATES KEEL HAUL GENERALS 9-2 - Niceville, FL

Chattahoochee Valley got off to an early start against against Jackson State on Saturday as the Pirate offense proved too much for the Generals. Alex Montes got things going right off the bat blistering a ball right through a Jackson State infielder for one of the General's three errors. After two batters were retired freshman first baseman Min Ho Kim showed why he will be a feared hitter in the ACCC this season by planting a General fastball well beyond the left center field wall. With the help a few miscues, the Pirates were able to put three runs on the board in both the second and third innings before Kim powered his second ball over the wall at Raider Field, this one a towering shot out to dead right. Kim had 3 RBIs on the day and paced the Pirate offense. Alex Montes added 2 RBIs of his own and Antonio Callaway banged one in as well.

On the hill for CV in his collegiate pitching debut was right hander Johnny Gunter(W 1-0, 5K, 2H). The flame-throwing righty put the Generals on their heels for 5 innings, striking out 5 while allowing just 2 hits, 1 walk, and 2 unearned runs. Sophomore lefty Tyler Moffitt(1.2IP, 2K, 0H) followed Gunter throwing a strong inning and two-thirds. He was relieved by Tristan Farrell(1.1IP, 3K, 1H), who sat three of the four General hitters he faced on strikes. Nick White(1IP, 1K, 0H) came in to finish the ballgame and the submarining righty mystified the Generals to seal the victory. The win puts the Pirates at 2-0 on the year and sets them up for a big Sunday afternoon showdown with tournament host Okaloosa-Walton.
