Pirates
Win Series Over Trojans, No Horse Needed - Alexander City, AL
The dirty Pirates of Howard Lake Field overwhelmed the CACC Trojans, who
had little protection on Sunday from a Pirate attack that led to the sweep
of an ACCC double header in Alex City. CV jumped ahead in game one on
the strength of a "no doubter" two run homer by Tristan Farrell
that started the seven run Pirate attack. CV committed several errors
late in the game that almost let CACC back in, but sophomore stopper Wade
Dudley would have none of that, and he collected yet another save with
two perfect innings of relief in the 7-6 win for CV. David Head earned
the win, throwing 5 solid innings for the Pirates.
Stephen Pittard paced the offense with three hits on the day, while Alex
montes and Alex Duhaime each added two of their own. In all, the Pirates
pounded out twelve hits in the ballgame.
Game two saw the Pirate offense really go to work, as the Pirates scored
in every imaginable way in a vicious sixteen run siege of the Trojans.
CV put up eight runs in the first two innings and rode Johnny Gunter's(W
5IP, 3H, 7K) arm as he mowed down Trojan hitters en route to a shortened
complete game victory. The Pirates would add another eight runs, all in
the fourth inning by taking nine walks and hammering almost every strike
the Trojans threw. Antonio Callaway led the onslaught by going 3-3 with
four RBI's. Stephen Pittard and Tristan Farrell each added two hits, and
Wes Adkins plated another two runners in the game. The final score in
game two was 16-2
As things often go in baseball, game three saw the tables turned as the
besieged Trojans turned the tables on the Pirates and blew them out of
the water to prevent the series sweep on Monday. The Trojans benefitted
from some fortunate placement of the ball as several hits fell just out
of the reach of Pirate fielders in the 10-0 loss. Tristan Farrell takes
the loss in the game, but the Pirates return home with a big series victory
on the road against a tough opponent in CACC.
The series puts the Pirates at 16-7 on the year and 5-4 in the ACCC. The
Pirates host non conference foe Middle Georgia at the Lake tomorrow.
