The Pirates head into ACCC play this Saturday riding the momentum of a 3 game non conference winning streak against rivals from the GJCAA. Zack Helewski was the story to start the 3 game sweep of Georgia rivals by throwing a complete game 3 hit shutout against Darton College for a 1-0 win on Saturday. The freshman righthander was overpowering, fanning 9 Cavalier hitters in the victory. It was a good thing Heleski was so sharp, as the Pirate offense was held to only 1 run on 1 hit on the afternoon. Trey Williamon singled in the speedy Jared Kahn after Kahn walked and stole second base. The Pirates took to the road on Monday heading to Swainsboro for another tilt with East Georgia College. Chatt Valley took 2 of 3 off the Bobcats to start the year and used a dominating, 4 hit performance by Martin Castro to take another game off EGC. Castro allowed just 1 unearned run, walked none, and struck out 4 in his 8 innings of work. The Pirate offense made an appearance as well, scoring 12 runs on 12 hits. Castro led the way for offense as well, tallying 3 hits, 3 runs, and a pair of RBI's. Taylor Hinshaw hit his first homer of the season and drove in 3 runs, and Jared Kahn broke the game open with a double in the 6th inning en route to a 2 hit performance of his own. The final would end up 12-1. To end the pre-ACCC schedule, the Pirates headed into Tifton to face ABAC, an opponent that has always been tough to beat at home for the Pirates. Tuesday's matchup would be no different. ABAC's pitching kept Chatt Valley's hitters off balance, but CV was able to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th inning. A 2 out, 2 strike single off Starter Trace McDaniel would plate 2 runs for ABAC in the bottom of the 7th before the Pirates answered back with a run to tie the game at 2 in the 8th. Dustin Dunagan took over for McDaniel in the 8th, and the righthander kept the Stallions at bay, firing 4 hitless innings. Finally, after 11 innings of baseball, the Pirates plated 2 runs on a clutch base hit off the bat of Trey Williamon. Dunagan picked up the win and struck out 6 in his 4 innings of outstanding work. The Pirates start ACCC play on Saturday at the Lake vs Southern Division Rival Faulkner State. First pitch is at 1PM.
