The Pirates, ranked 17th in the national in the initial NJCAA poll, started the season in expected fashion, taking 2 out of 3 in their opening series against East Georgia College, and following up those wins with a victory over Andrew College. The Pirates pounded out 27 runs in their series win over EGC, and used solid pitching performances from Micheal O'Neal, Trace McDaniel, Brian Alder, and Daniel Szathmary to stymie the Bobcats' bats all weekend. Against Andrew, Martin Castro was superb on the bump, holding the Fighting Tigers to just 1 run through 7 innings. He was followed by John Mark "Ted" Ramsey, Dustin Dunagan, and Daniel Szathmary, who each did their part to keep the Tigers' offense at bay. Vincente Andrews was the hero at the dish for the Pirates, hammering a 10th inning, walk-off grandslam to seal the victory. The Pirates host Pensacola State College this weekend ina non-conference series.
